Technopreneurial.com was created in August 2000 to disseminate information about technopreneurship. David Burnett developed this site to make publicly available the research from his Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. The 12 month fellowship, named after the founder of IBM and awarded annually by the Watson Foundation, provides the recipients with funds to conduct international, independent research.
With his fellowship, David is focusing on the role that technopreneurship (entrepreneurship in technology industries) has and will play in South East Asia's economic growth and development. The desired end-goal of the project is to produce research that can (1) help government agencies be more effective at encouraging entrepreneurship; (2) help indigenous people better understand and realize the existing opportunities for technopreneurship and innovation; and (3) provide evidence on the development externalities of entrepreneurship and technology.
Throughout the year, David will regularly post the findings from his research. The most valuable source of information for the project will be in the form of interviews with technopreneurs and government officials. By speaking with people with first-hand experience, David will attempt to develop a type of best-practice model for encouraging further economic development through technopreneurship. To complement the information from his interviews, he will also be conducting financial and economics analysis when the data is available. The goal is to establish an empirical link between financially sound technology enterprises and their positive spill-over effects in the macro-economy.
The contents of this site, however, are not limited to David's specific research. Rather one of the goals of Technopreneurial.com is to provide information about all things technopreneurial. If you have information that you would like to see on Technopreneurial.com, or if you have ideas, articles, or opportunities that you want to share with the Technopreneurial.com community, please let David know. |
